About

Overview of Program

The Education Studies Minor (ESM) focuses on the many professional research issues confronting educators.

The Education Studies Minor (ESM) is intended to address the diverse information needs of the UCLA undergraduate community to (1) allow students to learn more about the multitude of contemporary professional research issues confronting the field of education, (2) help understand the complex interactions between the legal, social, political, and economic forces which influence and shape educational policies in America, (3) provide an introductory course sequence for students who wish eventually to pursue careers in education either as teachers or researchers, and (4) provide an analysis of current educational practices.

The goal of the Education Studies Minor (ESM) is to provide upper-division undergraduates of any major the opportunity to:

  • Develop their understanding of current educational practices and the complex interactions among the legal, social, political, and economic forces that influence and shape educational policies in America
  • Consider options for a career in education
  • Become better consumers of educational services as parents, taxpayers, and citizens
