UCLA Ed&IS Dean's Circle
A Letter from Wasserman Dean Christina Christie
Dear Friends,
Let me first take this opportunity to whole heartedly thank all of you who have so generously supported the work of the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies over this past year. It is your support, in part, that makes possible the realization of our cherished goals—improvement of the quality of life for all and the upliftment of community and society in all its multiple dimensions.
We continue to live in turbulent times. While the Covid pandemic (thankfully) is on a downward curve, its long-term impact is clear—lower student achievement through loss of valuable instruction time, mental illness through social isolation, and increase in school and college dropout rates.
But challenging times also summon our best selves towards solutions. They call on us to address them forthrightly and with courage. And with new knowledge and measured wisdom we can do just that—strive towards a vision of human betterment.
It is through your generous support that we can realize this vision. In this spirit we invite you to join us in our efforts—together and with purpose through a gift to the Ed&IS annual fund. Your gift will enable us to advance numerous initiatives in Ed&IS towards this betterment including:
- Transformative research that addresses pressing issues facing children, families, schools and communities
- Increasing community college recruitment scholarships — thereby addressing workforce shortages in the US and moving UCLA towards achieving status as a Hispanic Serving Institution by 2025
- Providing scholarships that support and advance outstanding practitioners in Education and Information Studies
- Facilitating greater access to critical technologies for learning for our most under resourced populations
I humbly thank you for your support of the UCLA Ed&IS Annual Fund. Together we can make enormous strides towards a common vision of human upliftment. We so value your support.
Warmly and in gratitude,
Christina A. Christie
