Teacher Education Program (TEP)

In the Teacher Education Program program, students are prepared to become social educators in urban settings. The program is designed for students whose primary career interest is in teaching in low income, low performing schools in California, and Los Angeles in particular. TEP is housed in Center X at UCLA Ed&IS. The program offers an M.Ed. and teaching credentials for various subjects. Read on for more information about this program.

Overview of Program

The Teacher Education Program prepares aspiring teachers to become social justice educators in urban settings.

To serve a wide range of aspiring educators, TEP offers several academic program pathways based on area of interest. Learn more about which program pathway fits you.

Goals

UCLA’s Teacher Education Program (TEP) aspiring educators:

  • Embody a social justice agenda
  • Foster sustained engagement in teaching and learning
  • Attend to the moral, cultural, and political dimensions of teaching
  • Blend theory and practice
  • Collaborate across institutions and communities
  • Participate in collaborative inquiry within communities of practice
  • Focus simultaneously on professional education, school reform and reinventing the university’s role in K-14 schooling
  • Mirror the diverse, caring, anti-racist, socially responsible learning communities

Degree Tracks and Curriculum

Elementary Grade K-5: Candidates in the Teacher Education Program can earn a multiple-subject credential to teach Elementary and a Master’s Degree in Education (M.Ed.) in this pathway: Two-Year Master’s & Credential Graduate Program 

English Grade 6-12: Candidates in the Teacher Education Program can earn a single-subject credential to teach secondary (grade 6-12) English and a Master’s Degree in Education (M.Ed.) in this pathway: Two-Year Master’s & Credential Graduate Program - can specialize in Ethnic Studies

Mathematics 6-12: Candidates in the Teacher Education Program can earn a single-subject credential to teach secondary (grade 6-12) Mathematics and a Master’s Degree in Education (M.Ed.) in these pathways:
